Time To Reset

Updated: Aug 10

At the beginning of each year, we think ahead to the following 365 days, setting goals and striving to be someone new or one who simply does better. While setting goals is beneficial, the reasons behind those goals are not always good. I am a firm believer in having a time to “reset” my mind and heart before setting any big goals for the new year. That’s why I am giving you some suggestions and guides on how to “reset” before the new year comes.

Now, before I discuss this Reset Challenge any further, I would like to first say that the reason I am sending out the challenge in August is that after you have completed this one, I will have another challenge coming out at the beginning of October over guarding your peace. I have these in the order I put them in for a reason. It’s vital to our overall well-being to guard our hearts and minds from the Devil’s ways, but oftentimes it’s hard to know how to do that without first listening to The Spirit’s guidance in our daily lives. That’s why “resetting” first is important and, in my opinion, a necessity so that we can make that space needed and clear our minds. This way, we can easily hear the Spirit’s guidance on guarding our peace that God so freely gives us. When we do these two steps first of resetting and guarding our peace, we are then able to see and hear God’s guidance much more clearly and quickly when setting any future goals for our lives.

Okay, back to the topic of "resetting". To fully “reset”, the first thing we must do is completely humble ourselves, reminding our hearts and minds of Who is actually in control (it’s not us). Letting go of control is one of the hardest things to do for many, if not all of us. Letting go of control and giving it all up to God is THE MOST important thing you can and will ever do in your entire life. If you aren’t avidly seeking to give that up to Him daily, then you aren’t truly living for God. In other words, you aren’t thinking and acting as a true Christian (Christ-follower).

After you have thought through, prayed over, and fully started to recognize and practically work on humility before God, you can then begin the rest of the Reset Challenge. Included in this series is first this introductory blog post, and following this, you’ll have a 40 Day Reset Challenge with a habit tracker, Bible reading plan, and scripture cards. You can use all of these resources or only a few, but they are all there to encourage and benefit you spiritually, resulting in overall growth physically, mentally, and emotionally.

Doing this challenge alone is completely fine, as I have done challenges alone myself, but when doing a challenge alone, oftentimes we find that it’s easier to get lazy and potentially give up altogether. So many people still successfully make it through challenges alone. Please don’t take this as me discouraging you from doing this. All I want is for you to consider asking at least one other person to either help keep you accountable or to ask them to join in on the challenge with you.

Okay! You should be ready to begin this challenge soon! How stinkin’ exciting! I will be posting all resources mentioned above on Sunday (8/10). I hope and pray that you seek and grow closer to God during this time.
